There are more roof cleaning methods than you might think. And, seeing as your roof does a pretty important job and will be costly to repair should the worst happen, it makes sense for you to do your research when choosing a cleaning process and selecting an exterior cleaning company to do the work.
Our process - manual scrape & biocide treatment
In a nutshell, you can choose to have your roof jetwashed, steam cleaned, soft-washed, or cleaned using a manual scrape and biocide treatment.
We only offer manual scrape and biocide treatment to remove moss, algae, lichen and stains from roofs. And here’s why.
It’s the gentlest, safest solution (especially when carried out from mobile access towers or cherry pickers instead of roof ladders), and it also keeps your roof looking cleaner for longer than any other method.
We manually remove the moss from your roof tiles using a telescopic scraping tool. Then, a biocidal roof wash is applied to kill any remaining moss, lichen, spores and algae. Over a period of 3 – 6 months, your roof will return to its original colour, and future moss growth is inhibited for 5 – 10 years.

We minimise risk to you, your home, its surroundings and ourselves by carrying out thorough risk assessments before starting any job. And for further peace of mind, we hold public liability insurance.
Working from heights can be risky, so we avoid using roof ladders and opt to work from scaffold towers or cherry pickers instead. This means that we rarely need to step on a roof, and the risk of fall injuries and damage are greatly reduced.
Even though we use only the safest, gentlest roof cleaning method, if your roof is very old or already damaged, there’s always a risk that cleaning it could cause further problems. If we think this is the case, we’ll always let you know and try to put you in touch with a reliable roof repairs contractor. Once the repairs have been completed, we’ll come back to do your roof clean.

The only roof cleaning process we use is scrape and treatment. This means we use a handheld tool to manually scrape away moss, and then apply a biocidal treatment to kill any remining moss, algae or lichen, and remove any stains. This is the safest, gentlest and longest lasting roof cleaning method.

We use mobile access towers instead of roof ladders wherever possible. This means we don’t have to stand on your roof. Which is safer for your home, and for us.

This may be less than helpful….but the honest answer is: it depends. The cost to clean your roof will be affected b y the size of your home, whether access is easy (if not, we may need to hire a cherry picker for safety reasons), and how long the job is likely to take. The best way to find out is to get in touch and ask for a quote. Our quotes are free, and we’ll never make you feel pressured to say yes.

That depends on a number of factors. If your roof is on poor condition, or is likely to become damaged by the cleaning process, we’ll let you know. In these instances, we won’t provide you with a quote, but will recommend a reliable roofing repairs company.
If your roof is in good condition and in need of a clean, removing moss and algae can help to extend its lifespan. This is because moss and other organic growth can force tiles / slates apart, or even case them to crack. The cleaning method we use removes all organic growth, and inhibits regrowth for several years.

Yes. If it is allowed to build up too much. If it grows between your tiles/slates, it can force them apart, creating gaps that aren’t meant to be there. This commonly happens in winter, when the moisture in the moss freezes and expands.
Sometimes, organic growth can grow in hairline cracks. Again, when it freezes over winter, this causes the moss to expand, and it can actually crack your tiles.

We clean most types of roof, including roofs made from tiles or slates. We can clean all types of roof build too, including hip, gable, flat, Dutch gable and more.

Yes, eventually. But, we use the best biocidal treatment on the market, which kills all organic growth on your roof, and inhibits regrowth for several years.
